This December, James Turrell will be the first living artist to be the subject of a summer blockbuster at the National Gallery of Australia.
His installation outside the gallery’s main entrance is already the NGA’s most-visited work, drawing visitors at all times of day to immerse themselves in a perception bending view of the sky.
With a career spanning five decades and 140 solo exhibitions, this will be Turrell’s first show in Australia, and follows three hugely popular shows in the United States, including a sellout season at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the highest attended exhibition ever held at the Guggenheim Museum in New York.
James Turrell; A Retrospective opens on December 13 2014 and runs until June 8 2015. Tickets are available through Ticketek.
