8:30am: Make the most of the public holiday by treating yourself to a sleep in, followed by a fresh coffee from the comfort of your Abode. Once you are ready, head downstairs to No. 10 Restaurant + Bar to grab a bite to eat and drink before you begin your exciting day ahead. We recommend the signature Eggs Benedict, or if you’re a self-proclaimed sweet tooth the Sticky Date Porridge is a must!

10:00am: Now that you are fed and ready to tackle the day ahead, it’s time to visit Rond Terrace, along the shore of Lake Burley Griffin to experience the iconic flag raising ceremony which will be closely followed by a morning tea and entertainment.
12:00pm: A short 20 minutes’ drive from Abode Woden, the picturesque setting of Casuarina Sands is the perfect location for an afternoon picnic. You can enjoy river swimming, fishing, or even launch your Kayak or Canoe and go for a paddle. The newly renovated site offers BBQ facilities, drinking water, picnic tables, and toilets. Aside from being stunning, this site is also completely free!
Abode Pantry, at Abode Woden
4:00pm: Now that you are relaxed and rejuvenated from your time at Casuarina sands, it’s time to head back to the hotel to get ready for an evening full of activities by the lake. A short lift ride away, you will find all of your picnic essentials in our Abode Pantry.
Rond Terrace, Lake Burley Griffin
5:30pm: Once all of your favourite picnic essentials have been put together, it’s time to head down to Lake Burley Griffin to pick the perfect spot to enjoy the evening fireworks display. Regatta point, Rond Terrace, and the National Library are amongst the many popular vantage points.
9:30pm: Conveniently located a short walk from Regatta point is the city centre, where you will find yourself amongst Canberra’s best cocktail bars, clubs, and nightclubs. Start the night off in Garema place, where you can enjoy a selection of wines, local and imported craft beers, and cocktails at a range of venues including Hippo Co, Honkeytonks, and Shorty’s. If you want to dance the night away, look no further than the 1920s Sydney and Melbourne buildings, where you will find Canberra’s best night spots including Mr Wolf, Highball Express, and Mooseheads.
