Returning to Canberra this September is one of Canberra’s most anticipated annual events; Floriade 2016.
Floriade began when two friends, horticulturalist Peter Sutton and his colleague, landscaper Chris De Bruine decided to put together a floral display to celebrate Australia’s Bicentenary and Canberra’s 75th birthday. It soon evolved to become Canberra’s iconic annual celebration of spring, with 2016 marking its 28th year in operation.
Celebrating the arrival of Spring, the 30-day celebration features a variety of events including cooking demonstrations, gardening tips, recreational activities for kids and families, entertainment and horticultural workshops, with the added excitement of some high profile celebrities to add to the mix.
A five minute walk from the city centre, Commonwealth Park provides the perfect setting alongside the picturesque shores of Canberra’s Lake Burley Griffin.
Floriade’s spectacular 4 hectare site is abundant with more than a million bulbs, planted over 8000 square metres of parkland.
It is safe to say that Floriade is much more than just a flower show, and is definitely a must see event if you’re planning of visiting the nation’s capital this spring.
Park along Constitution Ave and walk to the Nerang Pool Entry via the underpass in approximately 5-10 minutes.
