There’s so much to do and see in Canberra that we’ve taken the guess work out for you by planning a suggested full day’s itinerary so you can experience the delights of the city in its warmest months.
7.30am: Sleep in – you deserve the rest and don’t want to be tired for the busy day ahead.
8.30am: Kick off the day with the signature ‘Eggs Benedict’ breakfast dish at No. 10 Restaurant + Bar at Abode Woden; a plate full of goodness with two poached eggs, slow cooked ham hock, cress, burnt butter hollandaise and sourdough.

10.00am: Walk off the big breakfast feast with a stroll around Lake Burley Griffin and make the most of the sunshine.
11.00am: Wander through the beautiful trees and native plants at the Australian National Botanic Gardens. As well as being a tourist destination, the Gardens are used for research into plant classification and biology while also cultivating threatened species to help assist with reintroduction to their natural habitat.

12.30pm: Lunch is served at Bookplate café at the National Library of Australia, where you’ll be in for a tasty feast. The menu is described as ‘homely with a twist’ where classic favourites are paired with fresh local produce, to create an indulgent menu. Try the zucchini noodles tossed with pesto, blistered cherry tomatoes mozzarella, and parmigiano-reggiano cheese for a twist on the classic pesto pasta. Wash it down with a wine from their large selection of beverages.
3.00pm: Check out some of the incredible artworks on display at the National Portrait Gallery. The gallery collection includes over 450 portraits of Australian icons – from politicians to entertainers – accompanied with stories about their history and contribution to Australian culture. Explore the diverse collection of oil paintings that were crafted back in the 19th Century and have stood the test of time to digital photographs and incredibly realistic paintings that could easily pass as photos themselves. There’s a lot to see and you’ll no doubt be amazed at the incredible talent of the artists.

4.00pm: Hike up to Mount Ainslie lookout to watch the sunset and enjoy the panoramic views of Canberra. Whether you want a bit of exercise or want to take in the scenery, a trip to Canberra isn’t complete without experiencing Mount Ainslie.
6.00pm: Try out some of No. 10 Restaurant + Bar’s best cocktails for before-dinner drinks.
